On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, I had the honor of attending the 57th gubernatorial inauguration of Mikie Sherrill. It was a truly memorable and inspiring experience – one that highlighted both the significance of civic engagement and the promise of new leadership in New Jersey.
Held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ, there was an undeniable sense of patriotism in the air. Among the many uniformed police and military members, were a fife and drum corps playing as guests arrived. You could feel the past, present, and future spirit of New Jersey’s history represented.
Governor Sherrill’s inaugural address struck a thoughtful and hopeful tone. She spoke about unity, service, and the responsibility of leadership to uplift all communities across the state. Her remarks reflected both a deep understanding of the challenges ahead and a clear commitment to addressing them with integrity and collaboration. It was especially meaningful to hear her emphasize the need to ensure that every voice in New Jersey is heard and valued.
The celebration continued into the evening at the Inaugural Ball, which John and I had the pleasure of attending at American Dream Mall. The event was a vibrant reflection of New Jersey itself with food stations showcasing cuisines representing the many cultures that make up our state, offering a true taste of New Jersey’s rich diversity. My personal favorite was the Taylor Ham vs Pork Roll sandwich station at the end of the evening. The sandwich was delicious, and we all know it’s Pork Roll. Right, guys?!
On a personal note, attending this inauguration – and celebrating at the ball – was both an honor and a privilege. It underscored the impact that leadership and policy decisions have on the communities we serve, while also highlighting the unique spirit and pride that define New Jersey. Being present for such a significant milestone in our state’s history is something I will always carry with me.
As New Jersey begins this new chapter under Governor Sherrill’s leadership, I am hopeful for what lies ahead and grateful to have witnessed the beginning of this journey firsthand.
